“Live Art is when an artist chooses to make work directly in front of the audience in space and time. So instead of making an object, or an environment (a painting for example) and leaving it for the audience to encounter in their own time, Live Art comes into being at the actual moment of encounter between artist and spectator”

– Joshua Sofaer

2PU1U are Berivan Sayici and Florian Tremmel. The Viennese duo is known for its rough and dark electronic tunes, as well as their distinct aesthetics using and playing with BDSM clichés. Both artists have performed extensively around the globe, as 2 Pigs Under 1 Umbrella and with their own independent liveart practices.

Throughout this workshop, 2PU1U will introduce strategies and skills for the creation of performance pieces that move the audience on different levels.  Through various theatre exercises, they will teach you how to battle stage fright, deal with strong emotions and consider the self-care needed for performances that are hard on your body and your soul. The workshop will culminate in the offer for up to four participants to take part in a live performance with 2PU1U at our Submerge Festival Party. There may also be an opportunity to present short live performances during the event.

DATES

Workshop Dates: Thursday 24th March 2022 to Saturday 26th March 2022 (11am – 4pm)
Live Concert: Saturday 26th March (7pm)

The workshop will take place in the basement of Soup, the venue for our Submerge Festival Party at which 2PU1U will perform.

Day 1
Exploring the skills and interests of workshop attendees.

Why are you interested in using the methods you chose? What do they mean to you? How do you keep the audience in mind? Do you want to entertain? Do you want to make them feel, think, shock them? And if so, why? What is your inspiration? What drives you as an artist and a person? How do you use this and translate it into performance art?

Using their own body of work as examples (and also of artists who work in a similar fashion), 2PU1U will introduce and examine existing artistic practices and methods to create performance pieces that can work in a club setting as well as in a gallery space. Topics will include:

Day 2
Spontaneity, healing and letting go of control.

On day 2, 2PU1U will teach you to develop your skills in spontaneity, incase something goes wrong. Spontaneity can keep a performance fresh. 2PU1U will show you the ins and outs on how to rehearse a piece without enforcing too much protocol, and how this can not only free you from strenuous rehearsal but also from stage fright. Topics will include:

Day 3
Creating a performance for the Submerge Festival Party

Day 3 will be about taking everything learned in the last days and applying it! 2 Pigs will work with artists to create a plan for the submerge festival party stage performance, where up to four participants will perform live with the band. There may also be an opportunity to present short live performances during the event.
